Schweke, Alvin Henry (9 July 1909 - 27 Aug. 1987)

LADYSMITH - Former Spencer area resident, Alvin Henry Schweke, 78, Ladysmith, died Sunday at Rusk County Memorial Hospital, Ladysmith.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Ladysmith, with the Rev. Edgar Barg officiating. Burial will be in the West Spencer Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today at the McElravy-Geier Funeral Home, Ladysmith, and an hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.

He was born July 9, 1909, in the town of Brighton, rural Spencer, to William and Wilhelmina Schweke.

He married Bernice Anderson Sept. 14. 1934, in Minnesota. She survives. He moved to Rusk County in 1958, and owned and operated Pla-Mor Lanes for 20 years and also worked at Rite Way Oil Co. He also had been employed as a cheesemaker for 31 years.

He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Surviving, besides his wife, are a son, Jim, of Pewaukee, a daughter, Janice Hakala of Brantwood; a brother, Clifford, of Cottage Grove, Minn.; two sisters, Lenora Zettl of Milwaukee and Estella Gunia of Spencer; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Vernon, and two brothers, Erwin and Rudolph.
