Ries, Verna Mae (Marriage - 19 June 1938)

On Sunday afternoon, June 19th at 3:30 to the beats of Mendelssohn’s Wedding March, Miss Vera Mae Ries and Mr. Howard Evans and their attendants advanced to a rose bower in the home of the bride’s parents and there exchanged marriage vows. The Rev. F. A. Rier, pastor of the Lutheran church of Waupaca and former pastor of the bride, officiated at the double ring ceremony. Mrs Rier played the wedding march.

The bride, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ries, wore a gown of white lace over satin and carried a bouquet of swansonia and sweet peas and a silk lace handkerchief which her mother carried at her wedding. In her hair she wore three white roses.

Miss Helen Ries of Chicago, sister of the bride, was maid of honor. She wore peach net over satin with white accessories. Her shoulder corsage was of swansonias and pink roses.

Miss Ruth Evans of Neenah, sister of the groom, wore pink lace with white accessories and a shoulder bouquet of swansonias and pink roses.

Miss Carol Ann Hauk, little niece of the bride, wore a blue organdy sprinkled with little white stars. She carried a basket of mixed flowers.

The groom, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy Evans of Neenah, was attended by his brother, Raymond Evans of Neenah, who acted as best man and also by Bertschy Hauk of Dale, a brother-in-law.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents after which dinner was served. A tiered wedding cake, decorated in pink and blue and yellow formed the centerpiece. Covers were laid for 24 guests. The home was decorated in streamers of pink, blue and yellow and baskets of roses.

Out of town guests present were: Mr. and Mrs. Guy Evans; Mr. and Mrs. Walter Huldeman and daughters, Betty and Donna; Raymond Evans; Mr. and Mrs. John Evans and daughter, Ellen Marie, all of Neenah; Mr. and Mrs. Bertchy Hauk and daughter Carol Ann of Dale; Miss Helen Ries of Chicago; Rev and Mrs. F. A. Rier of Waupaca.

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Evans left Sunday evening for Neenah where they will make their home. The bride’s dress for travel was a black net trimmed with crisp bands of white. Her accessories were white.
