Jeras, Valentine J. (10 October 1902 - 15 August 1970)

Valentine J. Jeras, 67, of Kansas City, Mo., a former Greenwood resident, died last Saturday of a heart attack at his home. Funeral services were to be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday from St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Greenwood with the Rev. Leander Koopman officiating. Burial was to be made in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

Mr. Jeras was born October 10, 1902, in Dortmund, Germany. He came to the United States with his parents at the age of seven. They settled in Springfield, Ill., and lived there until they moved to Willard in 1915. He was married August 23, 1930, to Marie A. Verschay in the Holy Family Catholic Church at Willard. He was employed in Chicago, where they lived for 20 years after their marriage. They moved to Greenwood where they operated the Greenwood Café for seven years. In 1955 they moved to Kansas City, Mo. He was a member of the American Slovenian Catholic Union at Willard.

Survivors include his wife; three brothers, Joseph of Lyons, Ill., Frank of Chino, Calif., and Anton of Brookfield; and three sisters, Mrs. Victor (Johanna) Klarich of San Francisco, Calif., Mrs. Victor (Mary) Ceferin of La Grange, Ill., and Mrs. Frank (Catherine) Trater of Riverside, Ill.
