Potocnik, John (20 MAR 1880 - 22 MAY 1946)

John Potocnik, 66, succumbed early Wednesday morning, May 22, 1946, to a lingering illness of plastic anemia at the Luther Hospital at Eau Claire.

Final rites will be conducted for him at two o’clock Friday from the Griebenow Funeral Parlors. Interment will be made in the Riverside Cemetery.

John Potocnik was sympathized by many friends and relatives during his long illness. Blood transfusions and hospitalization were necessitated every two or three weeks as a means of combating his fatal disease. Many friends generously donated blood on occasions, and for the past several weeks, when his condition became common knowledge, the Owen Kiwanis Club had been sponsoring trips to Eau Claire with blood donors for his benefit.

He was born on March 20, 1880, at Litija, Slovenia, Jugoslavia. In 1905 he came to America and settled at Mineral, Kansas, alter moving to Harding Co., S.D., where the met and married Anna Sak on April 18, 1909. Mr. Potocnik and his family moved to this community Oct. 3, 1919, and have since resided on their farm north of Owen, Wis. (Clark Co., Wis.).

His passing is mourned by his wife, two brothers, Joe Potocnik, Sr., Owen, and Frank living in Jugoslavia, and two sisters, also in Jugoslavia, three sons, Emil, John Jr., and Rudolph, Owen, and two daughters, Mrs. Carl (Mary) Neumueller, Mrs. Anton (Anna) Bozick, both of Milwaukee, and a host of friends and relatives.
