Hamel, Alice (21 NOV 1864 - 16 JUN 1946)

Last rites in commemoration of the deceased Alice Hamel, who had resided on a farm north of Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) for the past 30 years, were conducted from the Griebenow Funeral Home (Owen, Wisconsin), Wednesday morning at 9 a.m., June 19, after which she was taken to Appleton, where services were conducted from the Adventist Church and interment made in the Appleton Riverside Cemetery. The services were officiated at by Eld. J. C. Michalenko of Bethel Academy.

For one week previous to her passing away, on Sunday, June 16, 1946, she had been hospitalized at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital, where she was being treated for the disease of Leukemia, which she was long afflicted with. She was 81 years, 6 months and 25 days of age.

Alice Cornell was born on Nov. 21, 1864 at Pine Grove, Wis. Her early childhood was spent in Wisconsin until she was 16 years of age, at which time her parents moved to Nebraska, where she resided for four years. At the age of 20 she was united in marriage to Louis Hamel at Deerfield, wis., on March 16, 1884, where they resided for eighteen months after their marriage, then moving to Rushville, Mo., where they settled on a homestead. After 14 years the couple and their family again returned to Wisconsin in 1900, making their home at Marshfield and Appleton for the next 16 years, until her husband Louis passed away on Nov. 28, 1916. Alice Hamel, since that time has made her home with her children in this community for 30 years, during which time she actively served as one of its pioneers during its development to its modern day stage.

Alice Hamel is not to be mourned in leaving this world as she has left a fine accomplishing record of herself by which her family, relatives and friends will always remember her.

Her passing is mourned by her family of five sons, Orra, Mahlon, Courtland, Gaylord and Royalle, three daughters, Mabel, Gladys and Bernice and a sister, Mrs. Nettie Eaton of Lincoln, Neb., who attended the funeral services, and brother, Albert Cornell of Columbus, Kansas.
