Taylor, Kathryn (11 MAR 1884 - 28 MAY 1943)

Kathryn Dittmar Taylor, daughter of Nicholas and Katherine Dittmar, was born on Mar. 11, 1884, in Joe Davis county, Ill. She was educated at the Kewanee (Ill.) high school and at the state normal school in Bloomington, Ill.

She was married to Myron E. Taylor on June 23, 1906, at Kewanee, Ill. Mr. Taylor entered the Christian ministry in 1907, and both served charges in the West Wisconsin conference of the Methodist church, starting their work at Clear Lake, later serving at Spooner, Shell Lake, Ashland and for 19 years in evangelistic work, When Mrs. Taylor assisted from time to time as director in music and in work among the young people. Then returning to the pastorate in 1935, serving at Boscobel and Mount Zion for seven years, the longest period of time served by any Methodist pastor, doing great and good work for the Master. Rev. Taylor is now serving the churches at Loyal and York Center.

Mrs. Taylor was a good Christian woman, thoughtful, kind, loving and always helpful. She endeared herself to all people of the parish wherever they lived, being greatly beloved by her many friends.

During the first year of their pastorate at Boscobel Mrs. Taylor suffered a nervous breakdown, with which the medical profession was unable to cope, or find a remedy. A noted brain specialist of St. Louis, Mo., discovered that by a certain brain operation a cure could be affected. Two operations were necessary to administer the remedy on each side of the brain. The first was performed about 3 ½ years ago and was comparatively successful, but after the second operation on May 15, complications developed which resulted in her death.

She passed away Friday evening, May 28, at about 10 o’clock in St. Luke’s hospital, St. Louis.

She leaves to mourn her departure her mother, Mrs. K. M. Dittmar of Loyal; one brother, Edward N. Dittmar, of Kewanee, Ill.; one sister, Mrs. George Sutton of Spring Valley, Ill.; her husband, the Rev. Myron E. Taylor of Loyal; two sons, Harrison B. Taylor, of Houston, Tex. about to be commissioned in the United States navy, and the Rev. Charles E. Taylor, pastor of the Methodist church in Jamestown, Ind.; two granddaughters, Martha Ruth and Carol Jeanne, daughters of Charles; other relatives and a host of friends.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist parsonage and the Methodist church in Boscobel Tuesday afternoon, June 1, at 2 o’clock. The service was in charge of the Rev. Ernest E. Clarke of Eau Claire, superintendent of the Eau Claire district of the Methodist church. The Rev. Thomas S. Beavin, pastor of the Richland Center Methodist church preached the funeral service. He was assisted in the service by the Rev. A. E. Weittenhiller, pastor of the Boscobel Methodist church, and the Rev. R. J. Fleming, pastor of the Methodist church at Viroqua. At the request of Mrs. Taylor, Mrs. Ray Prior and Mrs. Calvin Prior of Loyal sang three beautiful selections.

She was laid to rest in the Boscobel cemetery.
