Glenzer, Emma #2 (8 MAR 1872 - 24 SEP 1946)

Mrs. Emma Glenzer, 74, Town of Green Grove (Clark Co., Wis.), was instantly killed about 3:45 p.m. Tuesday when the car in which she was a passenger collided with another vehicle and left Highway 29 four miles east of Abbotsford, Wis.

Her son, Ronald Glenzer, 29, also of the Town of Green Grove, driver of the car, suffered minor bruises and shock, and Mrs. Christ Kibble, Colby, received minor chest injuries and an injury to her right wrist.

Both were treated by Dr. G. G. Shields, Abbotsford, and released.

Joseph Schraufnagel, 70, Glidden, driver of the other vehicle, and his wife Anna, were uninjured.

According to Marathon County Traffic Officer Jack Nutter, Wausau, who investigated the crash, Schraufnagel was proceeding north out of a side road and making a left turn onto Highway 29. Schraufnagel’s car had almost come to a stop just over the center line at the point of impact. Glenzer reported to be traveling east at a speed of about 60 miles per hour.

In an effort to avoid the Schraufnagel car, Glenzer swung to the left, and his right rear fender hooked the front of the other vehicle, causing his vehicle to swerve toward the ditch.

His car struck a mailbox, hurling it four or five rods, and rolled over three times, coming to a stop 52 paces from the point of impact.

Schraufnagel’s car was little damaged, losing the right headlight, part of the radiator grill, and the bumper. The other car was virtually a total wreck.

Deputy Coroner John Hilpensperger, Wausau, said that Mrs. Glenzer suffered a slight head injury and an injury over her heart. Her death was believed due to shock and her advanced age.

A coroner’s jury viewed the body and the scene of the accident. An inquest will be conducted at the courthouse in Wausau Friday morning.

Mrs. Glenzer, nee Schoeneman, was born in Sheboygan, March 8, 1872, and came to Green Grove with her parents as a young girl. She was married Nov. 15, 1894 to Fred Glenzer, who died in 1933. She had lived on her farm in Green Grove ever since her marriage.

Surviving are her five sons, Fred, Glenzer, at home; Hubert Glenzer, Owen; Harold Glenzer, Colby; and Walter and Ronald Glenzer, also at home; one daughter, Mrs. Rudolph (Dorothy) Heyer, Wausau; two sisters, Mrs. Bertha Eschwig and Mrs. Hulda Saunders, both of Seattle, Wash.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The Rev. M. C. Goetsch will officiate at the funeral services at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Green Grove, on Saturday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. Services will also be conducted from the Lulloff Funeral Home at Colby at 1:30 p.m. Interment will take place in the church cemetery.
