Downing, LaVerne (28 SEP 1946)

The Holy Family Church of Cudahy was the scene of a double ring ceremony at 10 o’clock on the morning of Sept. 28, 1946, when LaVerne Downing, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford H. Downing, became the bride of Frank Zelinski, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Zelinski of Cudahy, Father Hatsel officiating.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a long trailing gown of white satin and net. A coronet of seed pearls held the long white ruffled net veil. She carried a white bridal bouquet of roses, lilies and pompoms.

Mrs. Harry Kober, sister of the groom, was matron of honor in a long white satin and net gown with a low cut sweetheart neckline. Miss Jerry Haley of Marshfield was bridesmaid and wore a long white gown with a satin brocaded bodice and bouffant skirt of net. They wore shoulder length headpieces of white ruffled net. Each carried a mixed bouquet of yellow and baby chrysanthemums, red roses and white pompoms.

Harry Kober, brother-in-law of the groom, acted as best man, and Gasen Downing, brother of the bride, was attendant. The men wore blue pin striped business suits.

Mrs. Clifford Downing attended her daughter’s wedding in a dress of navy blue crepe with black accessories. Mrs. Joseph Zelinski, mother of the groom, wore a sheer black, pink figured gown with black accessories. Both wore mixed corsages of pink roses and white gardenias.

Covers were laid for thirty five at the breakfast following the ceremony at Wendt’s Restaurant in Cudahy. A reception was held from two o’clock to five for seventy guests, after which the young couple left on an extended motor trip.

For her going away outfit the bride wore a gray pin stripe suit, green top coat with black and white accessories.

The bride is a 1942 graduate of Owen, Wis. (Clark Co., Wis.) High School and for the past three years has been employed in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The groom is a graduate of the Cudahy Vocational School and prior to his discharge in January of 1946 served for two years with the Marine forces in Okinawa.

Out of town guests attending the wedding were Mrs. George Knebel, Owen; Mrs. John Anderson, Duluth, Minn.; Mrs. Kathryn Lennon and Mrs. Betty Basset of Minneapolis, Minn.
