Merrill, Daniel M. (7 APR 1873 - 9 OCT 1946)

Funeral services will be conducted at two o’clock Friday afternoon from the Griebenow Funeral Parlors for Daniel M. Merrill. The final rites will be read by Dr. K. O. Crosby, and interment will be made in Riverside Cemetery. He succumbed to an illness which had necessitated hospitalization at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital for the past two months, at 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, 1946.

Daniel M. Merrill, a resident of Wisconsin for the past thirty-six years, was born in Hastings, Minn., on April 7th, 1873.

With his parents he moved to St. Paul, Minn. In 1883, where he received his education in the public schools and high school.

In 1895 he married Miss Minnie Prescott, and lived in St. Paul until 1910, when he with his family moved to Downing, Wis., where he entered the newspaper business, publishing the Downing Herald.

The collecting of stamps and coins have long been his hobby, and he possessed a fine collection of both at the time of his passing away.

He moved to Eau Claire in 1920, where he lived for 21 years. He was employed by the Gillett Rubber Co. for 21 years and retired in 1941.

In 1941 he moved to Owen, Wis. (Clark Co., Wis.). He was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Owen, and was also a member of the Masonic Organization.

Surviving him are his wife Minnie, three sons and four daughters: Col. Earnest D. Merrill of Washington, D. C., Thomas P. Owen, and Major Kenneth Merrill of Shalimar, Florida; Mrs. Harvey Wedding of Owen, Mrs. J. H. Lee and Mrs. Wilbur E. Owens of Nutley, N.J., and Mrs. George L. Petersen, Jr., of Cornell. Surviving him also is a sister, Mrs. O. H. Cole of St. Paul, Minn.

Mr. Merrill had the ability of making friends and keeping them, and in his passing, will leave many friends who will miss him.
