Huckstead, Mary Jane (19 March 1870 - 7 September 1949)

Mrs. Mary Jane Huckstead, 79, of Neillsville, died on Wednesday, September 7, 1949. She had been in failing health the past three years.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday afternoon at 1:45 from the Georgas Funeral Home, and at 2 p.m. from the Methodist Church. Interment was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery. The Rev. Virgil Nulton officiated.

Mary Jane Walker was born March 19, 1870, at Oconomowoc. She received her education in the rural schools there, and was married to Thomas Counsell on November 25, 1891, at Oconomowoc. Mr. Counsell preceded her in death on October 9, 1903.

On June 22, 1917, she was married to George Huckstead at Neillsville. They farmed in the Town of Grant and then moved to Marshfield, where they resided until Mr. Huckstead’s death in 1920. Since that time Mrs. Huckstead has made her home with her children.

She was a member of the Methodist Church of Marshfield.

She is survived by the following children: John Counsell and Mrs. Roy (Eva) Stanley of Neillsville; Kenneth Counsell of Wisconsin Dells; and Marvin Counsell of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

One brother, George Walker of Oconomowoc, three sisters, Mrs. Scott Counsell, Mrs. Howard Baker and Mrs. Henry Peterson, all of Oconomowoc, and 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive.

Pallbearers were: Joe Chase, David Krutsch, Duane Counsell, Keith Counsell and Jack Counsell.

Mrs. E. J. Roberts, Mrs. Ernest Campbell, Mrs. Nick Scherer and Mrs. C. E. Millard were in charge of the flowers.

Miss Hazel Millard and Miss Patricia Aspen sang, "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Abide With Me," accompanied by Mrs. Virgil Nulton.

Relatives from out-of-town attending the rites included: Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Counsell and son, Duane, and Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Bauman of Wisconsin Dells; Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Counsell and family of Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Counsell, Mrs. Howard Baker, Mrs. Grace Beilfuss, Mrs. Harvey Swann, Mrs. Henry Peterson and Mrs. Joe Wiex, all of Oconomowoc, Mrs. Art Scott of Marshfield; and Mrs. Charles Schmidt of Medford.
