Worchel, August Karl (22 September 1856 - 24 October 1949)

August Carl Worchel, 93, died at his home in Neillsville at 10, October 24, 1949.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday (today) from the Georgas Funeral Home at 1:15 p.m. and from the Immanuel Lutheran Church of Globe at 2:00 o’clock, the Rev. Adolph Schumann officiating. Burial will be made in the church cemetery.

Mr. Worchel was born on September 22, 1856, to Mr. and Mrs. Karl Worchel in Germany, when he was nine; he came to the United States with his parents, celebrating his ninth birthday aboard the sailboat on which they traveled for nine weeks before reaching New York.

They located in Milwaukee, where they resided a short time before coming to Clark County. They located in the Town of Grant. He worked in lumber camps in the winter and in the harvest fields in Minnesota during the summer.

After he was married to Marie Gluch at Granton, they farmed in Eau Claire County for several years. Mrs. Worchel died in 1890.

On January 20, 1892, he was married to Alvina Kauffman in the Town of Grant. They lived in Eau Claire County for ten years. In 1902 they came to Clark County and located on a farm in the Town of Seif. He retired from active farming in 1932 and moved to the city in 1948.

Mr. Worchel has been in ill health and confined to his bed most of the time the past five years.

He is survived by his wife and the following children: Mrs. Mable Konshock of Des Moines, Ia., Mrs. Emma (Louis) Reichert, Wausau; Mrs. Bertha Hessel, Abbotsford; Mrs. Marie Bollwahn, South Haven, Mich.; Ewald Worchel and Eugene Worchel, both of Neillsville; two sons, two daughters, one brother and two sisters are deceased.
