Schweke, Bernice (19 Oct. 1914 - 24 Oct. 2005)

Bernice Anna Schweke, 91, Ladysmith, died Oct. 24, 2005, at Rice Lake of renal failure after an illness of one week.

She was born on Oct. 19, 1914, in Sweden, Wis., the daughter of Andy and Bertha Anderson.

She lived for three years in Francesville, Ind., six years at Unity, Wis., ten years at Brantwood, Wis., and 52 years in Ladysmith, having come here in 1947.

She and Alvin Henry Schweke were married on Sept. 14, 1934. He preceded her in death.

She and her husband owned and operated Pla-Mor Lanes in Ladysmith. She belonged to St. John’s Lutheran Church.

She was a camping, fishing, needle work, card playing enthusiast and friend to everyone. Grandchildren were her most precious interests and she loved to bowl.

Survivors include a son, Jim Schweke; a daughter, Janice Hakala; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother Russell Anderson of Seattle, Wash.; and two sisters, Francis DeLadurantaye of Grandview, Wis., and JoAnn Bjork of Grandview, Wis.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Vernon Schweke; two brothers, Louis Anderson and Jack Anderson, and four sisters, Cora Bogush, Myrtle Sandonato, Mildred Martell, and Phyllis Kissell.

Funeral services were Oct. 28, 2005, at the St. John’s Lutheran Church with Rev. Jeffrey Ahonen officiating and burial was in West Spencer Cemetery at Spencer, Wis.

Nash-Jackan Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
