Rasmussen, Evelyn (28 JUN 1947)

On the afternoon of June 28, 1947, the St. John’s Lutheran Church at Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) was the scene of a lovely wedding, when Evelyn Rasmussen became the bride of Robert Bruss. The Rev. W. Schedler performed the ceremony.

The church was beautifully decorated in cut flowers, consisting of white and red peonies, red roses and yellow and purple iris. Miss Rachel Halverson, accompanied by Miss Rowene Gabriel, sang "I Love Thee Only" and "I Love You Truly." Mr. Fredricks, the church organist, played the wedding march.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. Rasmussen of Withee, and the groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bruss of Wausau.

As the bride approached the altar on the arm of her father, she wore a white satin gown made with a full skirt and long train. The bodice was fitted with a net inset at the neck. The sleeves were long and pointed at the wrist. She wore a fingertip veil and carried a bouquet of red and white roses and baby breath.

The groom and his attendant, Edward Sontag, wore tuxedos with the traditional white carnation boutonnieres.

Emil Rasmussen, brother of the bride, and Joe Mertens, the bride’s brother-in-law, acted as ushers.

The bride’s mother was attired in sheer green print while the groom’s mother wore a black and white sheer. Both wore corsages of pink carnations and baby breath.

Those present at the ceremony were Mr. and Mrs. Edward Bruss, and Mrs. Henrietta Horning and Judith and Gary, Wausau; Mr. and Mrs. Manford Orth, Harold Bruss, Mrs. Rudy Calbaum and Gerald, Miss Marquette Spies, Edward Sontag, Alvin Frahm, Barbara Weise, Ethel Radmer, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Eluhardt and sons, Milwaukee; Mr. and Mrs. Cullen Cammers and Bonnie and Cullen, Jr., Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Herman Calbaum and Shirley, Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Otto Calbaum and Gary, Withee; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Lueck, Wausau; Joe Bruss and daughter, Athens; Mr. and Mrs. L. O. Bower, Jim Falls; Mr. and Mrs. Jens Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Smith, Sr., and daughter Martha, Mr. and Mrs. Albert Rower, Owen; Miss Theresa Devine, Mr. and Mrs. M. Rasmussen, Emil Rasmussen, Wray Cleveland, and Mr. and Mrs. Joe Mertens and daughters, Withee.

Sixty relatives and friends were served at a lovely lawn dinner at 5:00 p.m. at the home of the bride’s parents. The table was decorated with a large floral centerpiece and two large, beautiful wedding cakes, flanked by candles and bouquets of cut flowers. After which a reception was held at half after seven. There were one hundred guests present. The evening was spent dancing. A lovely lunch was served at midnight.

The bride and groom left on their honeymoon shortly after this, with the good wishes of their many friends and relatives.

After July 5th, they will make their home in Milwaukee, where they are both employed.
