Wehe, Bernard C. #2 (14 AUG 1918 - 28 SEP 2008)

Bernard C. Wehe, 90, died on Sept. 28, 2008, in Santa Barbara, Calif. He was surrounded by his loving children.

Bernard Clement Wehe was born on Aug. 14, 1918, to Boniface and Anna (nee Weber) Wehe on their farm in Loyal. He helped his father and brothers on the farm until the age of 20, in 1938, he went to Wilmette, Ill., where he worked at the Motherhouse of the Sisters of Christian Charity. In March 1941, he was drafted into the U.S. Army. He served with the U.S. Army-Tenth Armored Division, 11th Tank Battalion, which landed after D-Day in France in late 1944. His battalion was in the Battle of the Bulge. He was awarded the Bronze Star for Bravery by the U.S. Army for his actions in Germany in February 1945.

In March 1948, he joined the Franciscan Brothers and took the name Brother Clem. He served for 21 years with assignments in Malibu and Santa Barbara, Calif., and Mescalero, N.M.

In June of 1972, Clem married Sheila Schirm Bohnett in Santa Barbara. She was a widow with 13 children. Clem spent the rest of his life as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His wife of 31 years died in October 2003.

Survivors include his brother, Jerome Wehe, Loyal; and his 13 children, Harriet Roberts, Kathleen Molloy, Mary Jo Williams, Joe Bohnett, John Bohnett, Floyd Bohnett, Jerome Bohnett, Matt Bohnett, Tony Bohnett, Danny Bohnett, Theresa Coronado, Claire Mon, and Dominoc Bohnett; and numerous loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all especially his nephew and niece, Al and Peggy Wehe, Kingwood, Texas.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Sheila; his brothers John Wehe, Wilfred Wehe and Gene Wehe; and his sister, Louise (Sister Imelda) Wehe.
