The St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at North Lewis and Garden Place, Waukegan, Ill., was the scene of a beautiful double ring ceremony, Monday, Aug. 18th, 1947, at five o’clock in the afternoon, in which Miss Miriam Puro, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Puro, Owen (Clark Co., Wis.), and Mr. George Luoma, son of Mr. John Luoma, Waukegan, exchanged marriage vows. The Rev. Esola officiated at the nuptials.
To the strains of Lohengrin’s Wedding March, played by the groom’s sister, Mrs. Russell Niva, Waukegan, the bride entered with her father who gave her in marriage. Her dress of white satin was adorned with seeded pearls around the sweetheart neckline. A fingertip veil was attached to a Juliet cap of lace and seeded pearls. She carried a bouquet of white gladioli.
Miss Mary Jones, maid of honor, was dressed in aqua blue, with a satin bodice and net skirt. Her bouquet was of yellow gladioli.
The best man was Toivo Luoma, Waukegan, brother of the groom.
A reception followed the wedding at Cooperative Hall, 523 Helmholz Av., Waukegan.
Mrs. Luoma is a graduate of the Owen High School in the class of 1945. The groom graduated from the Calumet High School, Calumet, Mich.
Mr. and Mrs. Luoma left for a short wedding trip to Upper Michigan, after which they will be at home at 1820 N. Lewis Ave., Waukegan.
Those from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Arvo Puro and son, Gary; and Mrs. And Mrs. Onnie Puro of Goshen, Ind.; Miss Tyyne Mutka of Winnetka, Ill.; Mr. Hjalmer Hekkinen of Withee, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Henry Puro, Mr. and Mrs. Pel Puro, Mrs. Tilda Hill and daughter Ruth, Mr. and Mrs. Matt Lampi, all of Owen.
