Gerald G. Koontz, 78, of Dorchester, Wisconsin died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at Saint Joseph's Hospital Palliative Care Unit, Marshfield.

Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home, Abbotsford, is assisting the family with pending arrangements.

DORCHESTER -- Gerald G. Koontz, 78, of Dorchester, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008. He was living at home until the time of his death. Services for Mr. Koontz will be at noon Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2008, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford, Wis. Pastor Peter Warmanen will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 11 a.m. until time of service on Wednesday at Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford, Wis.

Gerald Koontz was born June 27, 1930, in Milwaukee, to Ed and Ethel (Grube) Koontz. He graduated from Westboro High School. Gerald was united in marriage to Mary Mayer who preceded him in death. Gerald and Marilyn Marohl were united in marriage on Nov. 12, 1965, in Burnett. Gerald served with the Air Force in Korea and Vietnam. He worked at Liberty Homes in Dorchester as a night watchman and was a school bus driver in Colby School District.

Gerald was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed bird watching. Gerald's passion was his family.

Gerald Koontz is survived by his devoted wife, Marilyn of Dorchester; children, Bob (Tammy) Koontz of Medford, Jim Koontz of Rothschild, Kevin (Lorie) Koontz of Crestview, Fla., Sharon (Gary) Schmidt of Burnett, Richard (Kelly) Nelson of Denver, Colo.; 14 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; two brothers, James (Mary) Koontz of Eau Claire and Allen (Anneliese) Koontz of Kokomo, Ind.; and his cat, Sox.

Mr. Koontz was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Mary in 1963; and a niece.
