Shortell, George (11 Dec. 1881 - 2 June 1957)

George Shortell, age 75, a former resident of Colby, was found dead Sunday afternoon in a small home he occupied three miles south of Spencer on County Trunk V.

He had been dead for several days, according to Undersheriff Ainsworth Flatter and Coroner Herbert Lambert.

He was found by a neighbor, Albert Gennett, who investigated because he had not seen the elderly man for more than a week.

Burial services were held at the Colby (Colby, Clark Co. Wis.) Cemetery with Rev. Roger B. Knutsen officiating. Pall bearers were A. E. Messer, Ray Parrett, Rudolph Schweke, Carl Schwantes, Walter Flink and William Weis.

George (Bob) Shortell was born in Colby, Wisconsin on December 11, 1881, and spent a great deal of his life here. He never married and when his parents, Richard and Lucy Shortell passed away, he move to Riplinger. From there, he went to Spencer where he lived alone for the past few years. He leaves to mourn his death one sister, Mrs. Lena Eder of Colby, Wis.

Attending the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Eder, Mr. and Mrs. Angus Lamont, Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Fred Zassenhaus, Sr., of Colby and Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Firnstahl of Loyal. His sister, Mrs. Lena Eder was unable to attend.
