Laveen, Nels H. (2 Apr. 1864 - 5 July 1934)

Mr. Nels Laveen, village president, passed away at his home here Thursday morning, July 5th, at 2:25 A.M. He was 70 years of age on April 2nd. He had been suffering from a nervous disorder for the past month, which with pneumonia, caused his death.

Mr. Laveen was conscientrious and faithful to his endeavors to serve the community and leaves many friends who extend sincere sympathy to the sorrowing widow and relatives.

Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 from the home and at 2 o’clock from the Evangelical Salem church at Dorchester, Wis.

Funeral services for Nels H. Laveen, who died July 5, were held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 from the home here and at 2 o’clock from the Salem Evangelical church at Dorchester, Wis. The Rev. L. G. Thiel officiated at the services. Internment was made in the Dorchester cemetery.

Acting pallbearers were members of the Village Board, Oscar Nelson, Dr. A. J. Rilling, William Daley, George Kelsey, William Colby and Louis Schorer. Flower bearers were the Misses Marie Carpenter, Lorraine Stevens, Verla Miller, Marjorie Thompson and Clifford Stevens and Maurice Thompson.

Mr. Laveen was born in Sweden April 2, 1864, and came to America at the age of 17. He was married to Miss Jennie Thompson at Abbotsford Sept. 4, 1894 and moved to a farm west of Dorchester where they resided until eight years ago, when they moved to Abbotsford, Wis.

While living in the Town of Mayville, he held, at various times, the positions of president of the community club, member of the school board and town clerk.

Mr. Laveen was serving his second term as president of the village board of Abbotsford at the time of his death.

The deceased leaves his widow, four sisters and three brothers who live in Sweden.

Among the relatives and friends from out of town who attended the funeral were Mrs. G. Rombotis, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. O. B. Hagen, Mr. and Mrs. Olin Hagen and Edward Thompson of Wittenberg; Mr. and Mrs. Olin Thompson and Lloyd Thompson of Rib Lake and Mrs. Wesley Stevens and children, Colby, Wis.
