Billman, Walter E. (9 Nov. 1879 - 31 Oct. 1957)

Walter E. Billman, who retired three years ago after serving 30 years as distributor in Colby and vicinity for the Marshfield Oil Company, died last Thursday morning at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital at the age of 77 years. He had been in poor health for some time and suffered a heart attack last week Wednesday. Masonic funeral services were held at the Lulloff Funeral Home Saturday afternoon, S. L. Loos officiating, and burial was made at Marshalltown, Iowa.

Mr. Billman was born in Iowa on November 9th, 1879, and came to Wisconsin in 1920 and to Colby in 1923. He was married in 1900 to Edith Laury who preceded him in death in 1931. His second marriage took place at Waverly, Iowa, July 3, 1940, to Emma Yost who survives him.

Other survivors are four sons, Clarence of Plainfield, Andrew of Iowa, Wilbur of Burlington, Virgil of East Troy; three daughters, Mrs. William (Clara) Garbisch of Belgran, Calif., Mrs. Milton (Emma) Meske of Curtiss, Mrs. Arthur (Ruth) Leichtnam of Abbotsford; four sisters, Mrs. Fred Goeken, Mrs. Mary Willie and Mrs. Bernard Wolf of Marshalltown, Iowa, Mrs. Sadie Vajrt of Iowa; six brothers, Andrew, Fred, Raymond, Carroll, Rollie and Floyd of Iowa; 20 grand children; 14 great grand children.

Mr. Billman always took a keen interest in city affairs and served as third ward alderman for several years. He will be remembered by his friends as a man who always endeavored to perform every duty to his God, his family, his country, his neighbor and himself.
