Stortkey, Wendel (22 OCT 1867 - 21 DEC 1948)

Complications of old age proved fatal to Wendel Stortecky on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 1948, as he passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Stanley Zawacki, at Thorp (Clark Co.), Wis. Final rites were held from St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Lublin, with Fr. Augustyn officiating. Burial was made in the parish cemetery. Pallbearers at the service were: Frank Zawacki, Joe Lipinski, Joe Zawacki, Walter Staniec, Justin Jakowicz and Chester Kleminski.

Wendel Stortecky was born on Oc. 22, 1867 in Czechoslovakia and on Jan. 18, 1892, was united in marriage to Anna Vavra. Four years later the couple moved to America, settling first in Ohio and then moving to Lublin (Taylor Co., Wis.) where he became engaged in farming. His wife preceded him in death, passing away in 1941. Three years later he retired from farming and moved to Thorp, where he has made his home with his daughter ever since.

He leaves to mourn his passing two sons, Cornell of Cicero, Ill., and Steve of Lublin, two daughters, Mrs. Stanley (Helen) Zawacki, and Mrs. Joe (Margaret) Lipinski, Chicago, Ill., and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
