Nowak, Thomas (14 OCT 1889 - 27 DEC 1948)

Thomas Nowak, age 59, was laid in his final resting place in the cemetery of St. Mary’s Church, at Holway, this morning. Funeral services were conducted from St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Fr. Seeboth officiating at the final rites.

Pallbearers were: Richard Gaffney, Henry Mauel, Sr., Joseph Kowaleski, Mike Kowaleski, Tony Cokiewicz and Charles Rahn.

The deceased passed away in Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) on Dec. 27th, 1948, suffering from cancer. About two months ago he had undergone major surgery and since that time had been limited in his activities. He had been residing the past summer at Spooner, but shortly after his operation returned to Owen.

Born on Oct. 14, 1889 in Poland, he came to this country as a young man and then settled in this community. He purchased a farm northeast of Owen in 1926 and farmed it successfully until a couple of years ago when he moved to Owen, living here until April of this year., when he purchased lake property at Spooner.

On June 25, 1913, at Chicago, Ill., he was united in marriage to Stella Cjakowski, who passed away in 1946. This marriage was blessed with five children, four of whom survive him. About a year and a half ago he was again married.

Surviving him are two daughters, Mrs. Everett (Bernice) Hill and Mrs. Steve (Ann) V??, two sons, Anton and Alec, two brothers, Martin and Ignatz, and his second wife.
