Zahorka, Mary (2 Feb. 1856 - 5 Oct. 1934)

Mary Ludacka was born in Prackatitz, Bohemia, Feb. 2, 1856, was married to Frank Zahorka in 1878 at the same place. They immigrated to America in 1880, their destination being Milwaukee, where they resided eight months.

In 1881 they moved to Dorchester and settled in the woods and cleared a farm in the town of Holton, Marathon County. They retired to Abbotsford in June, 1913, where her husband Frank passed away in 1924. In Sept. 1929 Mrs. Zahorka suffered a fractured hip and unable to get about she went to live with her son Joe and family at Colby, Wis. In the fall of 1930 she removed to Milwaukee to live with her daughter Rosa Zahorka, where after two days illness she passed away at 10:20 p.m. Friday Oct. 5, 1934, at the age of 77 years, 8 months and 3 days. The remains were brought to Abbotsford for burial. Funeral services were held from the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Krueger and St. Bernard’s Catholic church Oct. 9, 1934, Rev. Fr. Novak officiating; internment was made in the Abbotsford cemetery. The funeral directors were Albert Skubal and Son of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

She was a kind and loving wife and mother, ever having the interests of her family at heart. She is survived by seven children who mourn her loss, Mrs. Rosa Zahorka, Milwaukee; Frank Zahorka, Milan; John Zahorka, Horicon; Joe Zahorka, Colby; Mrs. Mary Olson and Mrs. Christine Krueger, Abbotsford and Sister Liberta, Chicago.

Thirteen grand children, Mrs. Caroline Klinke and Mrs. Leona Barbera, Milwaukee; Arthur Zahorka, Medford; Irene Zahorka, Austria; Irvin Zahorka, Mrs. Anna Haderlein and Bernice Zahorka, Milan; Mae and Eldred Zahorka, Colby; Mrs. Norma Wepfer, William Krueger, Jr., and Mildred and Harvey Olson of Abbotsford; and seven great grand children.

All her children were present at her bedside when she passed away. The pallbearers consisted of grand sons and grand sons-in-law, Arthur and Ervin Zahorka, William Krueger Jr., Alvin Klinka, Harold Wepfer and Andrew Haderlein.

The floral contributions were many.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Zahorka, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Klinka, Mrs. Pauline Leis and Mr. Porinsky of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zahorka, Mr. and Mrs. Ervin Zahorkaand daughter Loretta, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Haderlein, Miss Ella Haderlein and others from Milan, Mr. and Mrs. John Zahorka of Horicon, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Zahorka, Mae and Eldred Zahorka, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Sterzinger and family and others of Colby; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Zahorka of Medford and a host of friends and relatives from Abbotsford and surrounding country.
