Block, Joan (Marriage - 20 Sept. 1958)

Miss Joan Block, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Block, and Ray Miller, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Miller, were married in St. John’s Lutheran church at Riplinger Saturday, Sept. 20, at 1:30 P.M., Rev. Paul Mall officiating at the services. The bride was given in marriage by her father. The bride was attended by Miss Janice Kussow of Wausau as maid of honor and Mrs. John Block of Colby and Miss Annette Miller of Colby as bridesmaids. The groom was attended by Jerry Block of Chicago, Ill., as best man and John Block of Colby and Jerome Kasper of Unity as groomsmen. Ushers were Henry Zitzer of Wausau and Marvin Busse of Abbotsford, Wis. Miss Marlys Block, cousin of the bride, sang "O Promise Me" and "The Lord’s Prayer" accompanied by Mrs. Henry Kussl of Riplinger on the organ.

The bride was attired in a gown of Chantilly type lace over satin with a cathedral trail. The fitted bodice featured a modified neckline with long lace sleeves. The full skirt of ruffles extended into a train which was later bustled, and had an overlay of lace in front of skirt. Her silk illusion veil fell from a lace hat trimmed with seed pearls and iridescent sequins. Her open heart bouquet consisted of a purple orchid, yellow roses and white carnations. Her three attendants wore cotillion blue floor-length dresses of nylon sheer and net over taffeta. The strapless bodices had gathered net stoles with full skirts of nylon sheer and net with embroidered flower appliqué. Their veils of matching color were held in place with braided crowns, with seed pearls. Their open heart bouquets consisted of yellow, white and blue carnations. The bride’s mother wore a yellow dress with black and grey accessories with a corsage of red and white carnations tied with a silver ribbon.

A reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents and supper was served at the church hall. Home decorations consisted of streamers and bouquets of salveas and mums. In the evening, a dance was held at the Kolby Park Pavilion.

After a wedding trip to the Black Hills and California, the couple will make their home on the groom’s farm near Colby, Wis.

The bride had been employed by the American Box Board Co. at Wausau and the groom served two years in service after which he engaged in farming.
