Humbird (26 November 1970)

Deer hunters, yes, and some deer have been taken; too much wind blowing to shoot accurately. Many does have been seen but nary a buck within shooting range. Among those who have been successful are Willard Stanley, Bill Arnold, Jacob Lightfoot, Jr., LeRoy Fitzmaurice and Perle Pickett.

Mrs. Elgie Hardwick came home Thursday after a few days’ visit in Altoona with her daughters, Mrs. K. Harris and Mrs. Dawn Johnson, and her son, Wayland, and his wife.

Mrs. Donald Zerbel and Mrs. Freida Zerbel drove to Eau Claire Monday where Mrs. Freida Zerbel had a checkup on her broken ankle and may then have a lighter cast.

Dale Austin and son, Cary, of Beloit were here to spend the weekend hunting.

Mr. and Mrs. Ed Barkley of Eau Claire visited Wednesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Laura Dignin.

Mrs. Vivian Salentine of Muskego came Sunday to stay a few days with her father, Herbert Adler.

The Happy Hour Homemakers club met Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Emma Gerber.

Mr. and Mrs. Cullen Dignin and Mrs. Norman Nibbe were Eau Claire visitors Friday. Mr. Dignin had a checkup on his eye. It is coming along very well.

Mr. and Mrs. Levi Fitzmaurice spent Friday evening at the Ed Tande home in West Garden Valley.

Mrs. Frieda Zerbel came home Friday after staying with her daughter, Mrs. La Vern Kaufman, for a time. She will be in her home now.

Jim Lightfoot of Mondovi called Sunday at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jake Lightfoot, while on a hunting trip.

Little Jack Allen Stanley was a guest of Mrs. Emma Gerber from Friday until Sunday afternoon.

Mrs. Louis Zerbel and Roland of Madison were guests of Mrs. Freida Zerbel from Friday until Sunday.

Mrs. Thane Joos, Karen and Janice of Alma Center and Mrs. Donald Gerred of Janesville, accompanied by Mrs. Maude Newton, were Eau Claire visitors Friday afternoon and called on Mrs. Helene Nelson.

Floyd Dunn of Waukesha and Charles Kilburt of Ixonia visited Friday night at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Perle Pickett.

Mr. and Mrs. Charley Fees left early Monday morning on a trip to South Dakota where they will visit relatives.

Raymond Stuve and Archie Fradenburg visited Mrs. Fradenburg in Sacred Heart Hospital Friday and found her much improved.

Mrs. Jack Gieslman of Sheldon visited Monday at the Arnold Matti home.

Mrs. Edwin Zimmerman and daughter, Mrs. Leona Morgan of Sparta, came home Monday from a week’s visit with their daughter and sister respectively, Mrs. Pearl Rhoades, in Dearborn, Mich.

Mr. and Mrs. Polege are entertaining a party of deer hunters and they have been fairly lucky.

Mrs. John Lein and small son and Ronnie Burkhalter of Rockford, Ill., were dinner guests Sunday of Mrs. Johanna Olson. Mrs. Lein and son and Mrs. Olson spent Sunday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Holman.

Jim Kluever of Rockford, Ill., is shunting here and is with the Ernest Olsons and Mrs. Johanna Olson.

A group of hunters have been at the home of Mrs. Christine Hanson this week.

Mrs. Harriette Gorst spent from Friday until Sunday in Fargo, N. D., attending a meeting of a committee on evangelism. There were several states represented.

Strong winds swept through our area. Shingles and debris are strewn about.
