Rasmussen, Julius (26 AUG 1868 - 5 JUL 1949)

Julius Rasmussen, 79, one of Thorp’s (Clark Co., Wis.) oldest remaining pioneers, passed away at the hospital at Marshfield of complications of old age ailments, at 7:00 o’clock Tuesday evening, July 5th, 1949. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 o’clock Friday afternoon, July 8th at the Thorp Funeral Home. An obituary will be published next week.

Another one of the fast disappearing pioneers of Thorp passed to the great beyond in the death of Julius O. Rasmussen, who died at the hospital at Marshfield on July 5, 1949, after a lingering illness. He had reached the age of 79 years, 10 months and 5 days.

Mr. Rasmussen was born in Denmark on Aug. 26, 1868. When twelve years of age he came to America and resided at Colby, Wis. for three years before locating in Thorp in 1885. During the early days he learned the trade of blacksmith and wagon maker, later going into the business of plumbing and furnace installing. He retired from active business affairs a number of years ago but became employed during the war again and up to two years ago enjoyed good health.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Frances Keideth Rasmussen, three sons, Arthur Rasmussen, Longview, Wash., Jack Keideth, Alderwood Manor, Wash., Richard Rasmussen, Milwaukee; four daughters, Mrs. Anna Handschu, Los Angeles, Calif., Mary Ann Rasmussen, Nurses’ Home, Marshfield, Margaret, Mrs. Reuben Schiebe, Marshfield, and Mrs. Raymond Izydorek, Thorp, and one brother, Fred Rasmussen of Kent, Wash., and nine grandchildren.

His first wife, Bertha Banderob Rasmussen, died in 1918. Two brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Arthur Oats, pastor of the Presbyterian Church of Marshfield. Interment was made in the East Thorp Cemetery. Pallbearers: Ray Zaborowski, Ed Bogumill, Gordon Wolf, Albert Phillips, Charles Schmidt and Eugene Brunner.
