Funeral services were conducted by Rabbi Harold Baumrind at the Goodman Funeral Home at Milwaukee, Wis., on Monday morning, July 18th for Mrs. Bertha Phillips, 69, who passed away at her home in the city of Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.) on Saturday, July 16, 1949. Death was caused by a cerebral hemorrhage. She had suffered a stroke four and one-half years ago from which she never fully recovered and was an invalid ever since that time.

Bertha Balkansky was born in Lithuania on March 4th, 1880. She was united in marriage to Louis Phillips at Sheboygan, Wis., in 1900 and nine years later came to Thorp with her husband and family. Here she made her home continuously through the years and many friends who deeply mourn her passing.

Surviving her are one son, Sol Phillips of Thorp; and two daughters, Mrs. Harry Cohon, Grand Rapids, Mich., and Mrs. Norman Chaimson, Minneapolis, Minn.; three brothers, J. Balkansky, Los Angeles, Calif., S. Balkansky, New London, Conn., and M. Balkansky, Milwaukee; one sister, Mrs. M. Meyer of Milwaukee, and three grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death.
