Colby - May 12, 1960

Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Loos spent several days in Chicago, Ill., on business.

A daughter was born to Mr. and Mrs. Howard Rannow at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital May 10th.

A son was born May 5 to Mr. and Mrs. Glen Rachu of Colby, Route 1, at the Marshfield, Wisconsin Hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Kobs spent several days in Mt. Horeb with their son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Delos Kobs, and children.

Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Reeves left for Mancelona, Mich., for a visit with their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. L. Miessner, and children.

Mrs. John Coates, home consultant for the Clark Electric Co-op of Greenwood, is at St. Paul attending a 3-day convention of the General Electric Company.

A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Victor Koleske at Appleton on May 5. The baby’s grand parents are Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Koleske and Mrs. Nettie Casey of Colby, Wis.

August Spann has been discharged from a Rochester, Minn., hospital and is now staying with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Flink, at Marshfield.

Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert A. Waldhart and daughter and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. D. Waldhart and Mike and Mary all of Appleton, spent Saturday and Mothers’ Day with the men’s mother, Mrs. Edna C. Waldhart, and brother, Wallace (Buzzie).

Mr. and Mrs. James Beals and daughter, Peggy, spent the week-end with Mrs. Beals’ parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Meyer, and visited her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Russel Meyer, and brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Harlowe Hibbard.

Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Arends and children have moved from their farm into the former Fred Kobs residence which they purchased. Mr. and Mrs. Kobs moved into the former Mel Singstock residence which they purchased. The Singstocks moved to Wausau.

Bonnie Scheelk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Scheelk, has been cited for scholastic honors at Central State College, Stevens Point, for the first semester of the 1959-60 school year. Mrs. Elizabeth Pfiffner, dean of women, made the announcement.

Mrs. Rudolph Schoelzel of Colby and her daughter, Mrs. Doris Chamberland of Watertown, left for Oakland, Calif., to be with the former’s son, Pfc. James Schoelzel, who was seriously injured April 30 in a car accident. He underwent surgery for a head injury. Pfc. Schoelzel is stationed at the Marine Base at Hawthorne, Nev.

Mrs. Anthony L. Schemmer returned to her home Tuesday after having spent the past 10 days at Green Bay where she was with Miss Josephine Schemmer during her illness and death. Miss Schemmer was the last of three sisters of the late Msgr. George A. Schemmer, formerly of the Cathedral parish at Green Bay, and the late Dr. Anthony L. Schemmer of Colby, Wis.

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Kasper and daughter, Betty Ann, drove to Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, last week-end to visit their son and brother, Pvt. Jerome H. Kasper. Jerome is scheduled to leave for California and then to Korea. He received his basic training at Fort Carson, Colorado, and had been at Fort Leonard Wood the past eight weeks receiving special training.
