Aged Man Injured in Automobile Accident

Joe Novy, age 77, a farmer living two and one-half miles southwest of Dorchester, was seriously injured Wednesday evening at about 10 o’clock when he was struck by a car driven by Miles Mauritz, of Abbotsford, Wis.

Mr. Mauritz accompanied by Warren Phaneuf, Gerry Reeves and Clarence Nelson, were driving the back road to Dorchester when they saw Mr. Novy walking to the middle of the road. Mr. Mauritz swung the car toward the ditch in an effort to avoid hitting the man who lunged toward the car.

The injured man was taken to a physician in Dorchester and then to the Medford Clinic, where he is suffering from concussion and a fractured leg. Traffic officers were notified and Officer Haire investigated the accident.

Word was received this afternoon that Mr. Novy died today as a result of the injuries received in the accident.
