Cole, Bird C. H. #2 (17 SEP 1889 - 18 APR 1951)

Bird C. H. Cole was born Sept. 17, 1889 at West Lima, Wis. He was the only son of the late Dr. B. A. Cole and Martha J. Cole. He received his early education at West Lima, and graduated from the Viola High School with the class of 1906.

He taught school for two years, after which he made cheese for a time. In 1913 he came to the Town of Butler, Clark County to join his family who had settled there in 1911. There he made cheese for several years, after which he worked on the home farm and continued to live there until he was taken sick.

On April 8, 1951 he suffered a stroke from which he did not recover. He was taken to the Sacred Heart Hospital at Eau Claire, where he passed away suddenly on April 18, 1951 at the age of 61 years, 7 months and 1 days.

He leaves to mourn, his 86 years old mother, Mrs. Martha Cole, and four sisters, Mrs. Henry (Sarah) Dittner, Thorp, Mrs. George (Mary) Steinhaus, Cornell, Mrs. Bethel Beckman, Eau Claire, and Mrs. Leonard (Lois) Johnson, Greenwood. There are also 12 nieces and nephews, 12 great-nieces and nephews, 2 aunts and 2 cousins. His father preceded him in death 8 years ago.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 21 from his home in Butler, with burial in the Greenwood Cemetery. Rev. T. M. Nelson conducted the services.

Pallbearers were nephews, Maynard and Norman Dittner, Dale Johnson, Charles Books, Edwin Muelling and John Peoples. During the service, Mrs. Ernest Shoemaker and Mrs. John Bizjak, sang "The Rock That Is Higher Than I" and "Rock of Ages" and "The Sweet By and By" was sung at the cemetery.

Relatives from away who attended the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Henry Dittner, Thorp; Mr. and Mrs. George Steinhaus, Cornell; Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Johnson and family, Greenwood; Mrs. Bethel Beckman, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Books and family, Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Muelling and family, Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Dittner and Norman Dittner, Eau Claire; Mr. and Mrs. John Peoples and family, Pekin, Ill; Mrs. Belle Cumpston and son, La Farge, Wis.; and Miss Vera Johnson, Marshfield.

A large number of friends from Chippewa Falls, Stanley, Thorp, Withee, Loyal and Greenwood were also in attendance.
