Bach, Bernard J. (23 Aug. 1923 - 9 Mar. 2009)

COLBY -- Bernard "Bernie" J. Bach, 85, of Colby, and a former town of Little Black resident, died Monday, March 9, 2009, at the Colonial Center in Colby, Wis.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, Holway. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in the town of Little Black, where full military honors will be performed by the Boxrucker-Berry American Legion Post No. 519 of Stetsonville.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church in Holway, and again Friday at the church from 9 a.m. until time of services.

Hemer Funeral Home of Medford is assisting the family with arrangements.

He was born Aug. 23, 1923, in the town of Little Black to Paul Sr. and Elizabeth (Jakel) Bach. Bernie and the former Dorothy A. Prell were married June 6, 1952, at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Medford. She preceded him in death on Aug. 23, 2004.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, with the 158 2nd Engineer's Battalion in Alaska.

He was a dairy farmer in the town of Little Black until ill health forced his retirement Jan. 19, 2006.

He is survived by two daughters, Cheryle (Tim) Bluem of Osseo and Carla (Kim) Peissig of Little Black; a son, Jim Bach of Little Black; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerome (Joanne) Bach of Medford and Paul Jr. (Mary Kay) Bach of Dorchester; and two sisters, Olivia Venne of Milwaukee and Betty (Glen) Heier of Medford.
