Piler, Doris Louise (Marriage - 17 June 1941)

In a simple June wedding, Miss Doris Louise Piler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Piler of Medford and Alfred Nikolay, son of Mrs. Jake Nikolay, were united in marriage. The Rev. C. D. Brady performed the ceremony and sang the nuptial high mass at nine o’clock, Tuesday morning. Acting as altar boys were Jim and George Nikolay, brothers of the groom.

For the wedding the bride wore a plaid suit with white sheer blouse, a large white hat with brown grosgraine ribbon, white and brown saddle shoes. A white gardenia shoulder corsage and crystal rosary completed her ensemble.

A brown crepe redingote, large straw colored hat, saddle shoes and a gardenia shoulder corsage were worn by the bride’s only attendant, Miss Aurelia Diedrich of Medford. She also carried a crystal rosary.

Melvin Nikolay attended his brother as best man.

Baskets and vases of peonies and mock orange blossoms decorated the altars and communion rail. The St. Bernard’s choir sang the "Mass of the Angels" and at the offertory a woman’s quartet of the choir sang "Ave Marie Stella."

Following the ceremony a breakfast was served to immediate relatives at the home of the groom’s mother. A tiered wedding cake surrounded by a wedding bell made by the groom’s sister, Mrs. Hess, was used as a centerpiece. A reception at the home of the bride’s parents and a wedding dance at the armory in the evening concluded the festivities.

After a few days stay at Berry Lake, near Shawano, Mr. and Mrs. Nikolay will be at home at 1530 Madison St., Madison.

Before her marriage the bride has been employed in Chicago. The groom who is a graduate of the Abbotsford high school and the University Short Course at Madison is employed by Kennedy-Mansfield Dairy at Madison.

Among the relatives from away who attended the wedding were: Mrs. John Nikolay, Shawano; Mrs. Eugene Hess and children, Adell; Mrs. Royal Archambo and children, Sheboygan; Mr. and Mrs. Francis Hittl, New London; Mrs. George Oppman and children, Mrs. Ed Spindler, and children, Rozellville; and Mrs. Hermit Stemers and son, Spencer.
