Hughes, Emmeratta (25 DEC 1866 - 7 APR 1949)

Funeral services will be conducted at Griebenow Funeral Parlors, for Mrs. Emmeratta Hughes, who passed away late last night after a long illness. Dr. K. O. Crosby and Rev. Glick will officiate at the service. Her remains will then be shipped to Newton Falls, Ohio for burial along side of her husband, John, who preceded her in death on March 8th of this year.

A resident of this community for more than 50 years she had endeared herself to all that knew her. Before becoming ill several years ago she had been an active community worker. For many years she served on the Owen Library Board and was an active member of the Congregational Church.

Mrs. John F. Hughes died at the Clark County Hospital early Thursday morning, April 7, following a long illness. Services were conducted by the Rev. W. Myron Glick and the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Owen Crosby with music in charge of Mrs. A. M. Wilson, were held at the Griebenow Funeral Parlors on Friday afternoon, April 8th. Interment was made Saturday morning at Newton Falls, Ohio, beside Mr. Hughes who died four weeks previous.

Emmaretta Lotta Caswell was born in Milwaukee, Wis., Dec. 25, 1866. When she was six years old the family home was established at Ludington, Mich., the community in which she was reared. On Jan. 5, 1898 she was married to Mr. Hughes at Ludington. They made their home at Big Rapids, in Michigan, for a year before coming to Owen (Clark Co., Wis.) where they have resided until two years ago when she was hospitalized.

Mrs. Hughes is survived by a brother, Sidney R. Caswell, a sister, Mrs. Thomas B. Hanna, both of Ludington, several cousins in Milwaukee, and several nieces and nephews in Michigan.
