Raines, Winifred Jean "Wynn" (20 November 1938 - 15 March 2009)

Winnifred jean "Wynn" Raines, 70, of Whispering Pines, NC, died of natural causes Sunday, March 15, 2009 at her home.

Winifred was born Nov. 20, 1938, in Neillsville to the late Earl and Ione Bruhn. She attended Stevens Point College in Stevens Point. She worked from 1957 to 1962 for Capital Airlines, United Airlines and National Airlines in Washington D.C., in space control and reservations. From 1963 to 1965, she was a customer service agent with Piedmont Airlines in Richmond, VA. She managed travel agencies in Cleveland, OH, Washington D.C., and Syracuse, NY, following her husband Ron to various duty stations during his 18 years with Eastern Airlines. While working for the airlines, Wynn and Ron lived almost everywhere - Alexandria, VA (three times), Richmond, VA, Orlando (Walt Disney World), Cleveland, OH, Washington D.C., Syracuse, NY, Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Glastonbury, CT (outside of Hartford), Charlotte, NC, and finally Pinehurst and the Sandhills of North Carolina. Ron always wanted a home adjacent to a golf course. Wynn wanted a home on a lake with a gazebo. For the past seven years, they lived off Pine Lake in Whispering Pines, NC, and yes, Wynn also got her gazebo. They lived happily ever after for nearly 50 years and soon will be together again in a better place.

Wynn was a great wife, wonderful mother and Ron’s best friend. She enjoyed travel, being a mother and grandmother, crossword puzzles, shopping and not necessarily in the above order.

She is survived by her husband, Roney D. Raines of the home; one daughter, Kelly Leach of Seven Lakes, NC; one brother, Jay Bruhn of Knoxville, TN; one sister, Judy Williams of Milwaukee; two grandchildren, Colby Leach Haynes and husband Daniel stationed in Tampa, FL, and Kelsey Leach of Winston-Salem, NC.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 18, 2009, at 7 p.m. at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines, NC.
