Buchholz, Norma J. (25 Sept. 1927 - 14 Mar. 2009)

Norma J. Buchholz, 81, of Marshfield, Wisconsin, died Saturday, March 14, 2009, at the Colonial Center Nursing Home in Colby, Wis.

She was born Sept. 25, 1927, in Heart Prairie, the daughter of Henry and Emma (Kienbaum) Schmidt. Norma was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Whitewater. She attended the North Heart Prairie one-room country school until the family moved to Avalon in 1938.

Norma was confirmed in 1943 at Christ Ev. Lutheran Church in Clinton and she graduated from Clinton High School in 1945.

She was night telephone operator for Wisconsin Bell in Beloit and Evansville. Although she was an operator for Wisconsin Bell, she was always engaged in farming. After her father's death, Norma's mother purchased a farm west of Janesville, where Norma and her mother farmed with the help of brother-in-law Art Nelson.

In 1958, Norma married Raymond Buchholz and they farmed in Center Township and Indianford. Raymond died in 1977.

In 1984, Norma moved to Clark County, where she farmed in partnership with Harold Garbisch. After Harold's death in 1991, she continued to farm until 1997 when she retired in Marshfield.

Norma was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Marshfield.

She is survived by a step-daughter, Vicki Buchholz of Caledonia, Ill., and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. She was the surviving member of her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Walter and two sisters, Arvilla Shuman Fenrick and Mildred Nelson.

There will be a visitation from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.

Norma’s funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 22, at Christ Ev. Lutheran Church, 300 High St., Clinton, with the Rev. William Uffenbeck officiating. Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday, March 20, at Schoenfeld-Mark Funeral Home in Clinton, and Sunday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. The cortege will process to Heart Prairie Cemetery for interment.
