Kroehn, Augusta (5 July 1870 - 12 Feb. 1942)

Internment of the body of Mrs. Augusta Kroehn was made in the Abbotsford cemetery following funeral services Monday.

Mrs. August Kroehn, a resident of Abbotsford the past 15 years, was taken to a Wausau hospital, Wednesday, and died there very unexpectedly, Thursday morning at 8:15. The body lay in state at the Ritter and Deutsch funeral home, Wausau, until nine o’clock, Monday morning when family services were conducted there by the Rev. P. W. Roehrs, pastor of the Zion Lutheran church. It was then brought to Christ Evangelical Lutheran church here until two o’clock when the Rev. J. Brandt conducted the rites here.

The pallbearers were Fred Dietsche and Henry Wilhelmi, Abbotsford; Henry Rau, Charles and Emil Harder, Dorchester and Frank Sterzinger of Colby, Wis.

Mrs. Kroehn was born Augusta Ortlieb in Germany, July 5, 1870 and came to America with her parents. On May 31, 1888, she was united in marriage to Anton Kroehn at Dorchester, Wis. The young couple made their home on a farm about six miles north of here on highway 13 where they lived until about 1914 when they moved to another farm a mile north of the St. Louis Catholic Church in Dorchester, Wis.

In 1927 they retired from farming and moved to the village of Abbotsford where Mr. Kroehn preceded his wife in death in 1932.

Surviving are seven children, all of whom attended the funeral here except on son in Oregon. The children include two sons: Paul Kroehn, Black Rock, Ore., William Kroehn, Milwaukee; five daughters: Mrs. Charles Maresh, Rice Lake; Mrs. John Eschenbach, Wausau; Mrs. Herbert Leichtnam, Fond du Lac; Mrs. Arthur Kamke and Mrs. Arnold Braatz, both of Schofield. There are also two sisters, Mrs. Erma Keene, New York City and Mrs. Ida Pagel, Wausau and Mrs. Erma Keene of New York City. Eight grandchildren also survive.
