Late Friday afternoon Daniel Poppe, 57, was found dead in his home in the Town of Longwood (Clark Co., Wis.). Death apparently was sudden and attributed to a heart condition. However, he had been feeling quite well and only a few days previous had been deer hunting and dragged his own deer out of the woods.

Funeral services were conducted from the Griebenow Funeral Parlors at two o’clock Monday afternoon, Nov. 27th with Dr. K. O. Crosby officiating. Military rites were conducted at the grave at the Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ralph Weidman, Johnny Erickmoen, Lynn Hodnett, Bill Smith, Hugo Wolters and William Veurink. Those in charge of flowers were Mrs. Carl Sillampa, Mrs. Johnny Erickmoen, Mrs. Tony Auberg, Mrs. Hugo Wolters, Mrs. Walter Emmerson and Nelda Lang.

Daniel Poppe was born on May 9, 1893 and had been a resident of the Town of Longwood ever since 1937. Since coming to this community he had been engaged in the occupation of farming. Previous to that he spent five and one-half years in the service of the United States Army serving overseas during World War I., and also participating in the Mexican uprising. During World War II he served in this country’s defense preparations by being associated with a civilian construction concern that built airbases in the Hudson Bay territory and in the Aleutian Chain.
