Dougan, Florence Clara (11 April 1917 - 1 April 2009)

Florence C. Dougan, 91, of Neillsville, formerly of Milwaukee, died Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at the Memorial Health and Rehabilitation Center in Neillsville.

Florence Clara Dougan was born April 11, 1917, in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Andrew J. and Laura Marie (Guels) Gallaher. She graduated from Rosati-Kane High School and was united in marriage to Michael J. Dougan in 1946 at the Margaret of Scotland Parish in St. Louis. They moved to Chicago, IL, where they lived for two years. They then moved to Milwaukee and raised seven children. In 1959, she and her husband purchased Otto’s Bakery and later changed the name to Dougan’s Bakery. Many happy years were spent working together as a family and she was famous for her pies.

Florence was a member of St. Robert’s Parish and sang in the church choir. She was also an Associate of the Order of the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi.

She is survived by seven children, Michael (Pam) Dougan III of Ft. Worth, TX, Laura (Bob) Hampton of South Bristol, NY, Patricia (Peter) Gingrass of Charlotte, NC, Mary (Steve) Decker of Ross, OH, Robert (Sarah) Dougan of Dayton, OH, James Dougan of Cortez, CO, and Kathleen (Thomas) Watson of Neillsville; 17 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by a brother, Walter Gallaher.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Michael; a granddaughter, Andrea Therese Dougan; a brother, Richard Gallaher; and a sister, Gertrude.

A funeral mass was held for Florence at 10 a.m. Monday, April 6, 2009, at St. Robert’s Church in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Interment was in Holy Cross Cemetery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
