Thielke, John (10 AUG 1886 - 3 JUN 1953)

(The Brillion News)

John Thielke, who has been ailing for many months, answered his last summons Wednesday afternoon at 5 at the Bellin Memorial Hospital where he had been confined the past few weeks.

Many people in our community who had been honored with only a brief acquaintance with John, will mourn his passing. For John’s cheerful and pleasant personality drew friendship with whomever he met. While a resident of the city, he took active and enthusiastic interest in Billion, encouraging and inspiring those individuals comprising groups with which he became associated.

Born Aug. 10, 1886, at Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), he was a son of the late Herman Thielke. He wed Marie Reske in 1914 and became a widower in 1924. In 1938 he wed Mrs. Hattie (Tamm) Krueger of our city, later opening a variety store which he operated for five years. After retiring from active mercantile business he aspired to public office becoming second ward alderman which made him also a member of the county board, in which offices he was a contentious worker. During his operation of the store in our city, he was active as a Chamber member, becoming secretary for many years, an office he discharge aggressively and with trust and confidence of his fellow businessmen.

Surviving the deceased are the widow, a daughter, Mrs. Leo Tobola of Milwaukee; two brothers, George and a half brother Walter Boelter of Thorp, and a sister, Ciara Western of Stanley.

Services for the deceased were held at Brillion EUB Church, of which he was a member, at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 6, the Rev. Herman Siedschlag officiating. Interment took place in Wausau.
