Davel, Joseph J. (9 Apr 1881 - 25 APR 1945)

Joseph J. Davel, 64, died at St. Joseph’s hospital in Marshfield ay 7:05 a.m. Wednesday, April 25. His death was the result of injuries suffered in a fall from a porch at his home over the weekend.

Mr. Davel was born at Hilbert Junction, Calumet county, on Apr. 9, 1881. When but a small boy, he came with his parents to Marshfield and then to Spencer, where he received his education. In 1889 the family moved to Loyal, where he worked with his father in a harness shop. Upon the death of his father in 1906, he took charge of the business. His mother passed away in 1920.

He married to Annie Catherine Dietsche in Loyal on June 2, 1903.

He is survived by his wife and five children, Mrs. Otto (Margaret) Fiegel of Omro, Alexander Davel of Marshfield, Bernard Davel, with the U. S. army in Germany, and Mrs. Sherwood (Helena) Plath of Oshkosh; by 10 grandchildren, and by four brothers, Albert and Charles of Loyal, John of Spencer, and George of Stratford. One son, Andrew, died in January, 1926. One grandson, Richard, passed away in April, 1942.

For more than a year past Mr. Davel had been employed by the firm of Beaver and Rellis. Out of respect for their employee, their place of business was closed during the funeral services.

Funeral services were held at St. Anthony’s Catholic church at 9 a.m. Saturday, with the Rev. Aloys Zinthefer officiating at the requiem high mass. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were Matt Beaver, Raphael Haas, Leo Theisen, Ed Bertz, Roman Braun and Frank Degenhardt. They were selected from the membership of the Holy name Society. Other members of the society attended in a body. Mr. Davel was a member of the Holy Name Society and the Catholic Knights.

Among the relatives from out of town who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Otto Fiegel and children of Omro, Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Davel and son of Marshfield, Mr. and Mrs. Sherwood Plath and son of Stratford, and Mr. and Mrs. John Davel of Spencer, with other relatives attending from Marshfield, Colby, Spencer and Riplinger.

The Tribune extends to the bereaved its sympathy in the loss of a loved one.
