Leatherdale, Mary #3 (24 NOV 1866 - 17 AUG 1945)

Mrs. Mary Leatherdale, 78, died at St. Joseph’s hospital in Marshfield at 11:25 o’clock Friday evening Aug. 17. She had been a patient there for two weeks.

Mrs. Leatherdale (nee Mary Boiee) was born in Ohio on Nov. 24, 1866.

She came with her parents to Clark county and settled on a farm south of Spokeville. She taught in the rural schools of the vicinity for a few years. She was married at Spokeville 55 years ago to Attila Leatherdale, who died on Mar. 20, 1933. Most of her married life was spent in this vicinity. She resided in Loyal for 31 years. Because of failing health, she sold her home in the village and since Apr. 21 has made her home with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Burton Leatherdale, at Fifield.

Mrs. Leatherdale was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist church. She was a member of the Loyal Birthday Circle and was for many years a member of the Local Royal Neighbor camp and Women’s Christian Temperance Union. Those who knew her as a woman of kindly deeds and a worthy life.

Funeral services were held in the Loyal Methodist church at 2 p.m. Monday, with the Rev. M. E, Taylor officiating. Those who served as pallbearers were Ray Prior, R. M. Pratt, Albert Davel, , Dan Castner, V. O. Kauffman and C. C. Taylor. Those who carried the flowers were Mrs. Dan Castner, Mrs. C. C. Taylor, Mrs. Elwin Cook, Mrs. Albert Castner, Mrs. William Evans, Mrs. R. M. Pratt, Miss Nellie Welsh, Mrs. Leon West, Mrs. Frank Oestreich and Mrs. Andrew Lewis.

Mrs. Ray Prior and Mrs. Calvin Prior sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "In the Garden," with Miss LaVonne Smith as accompanist. Burial was in the Loyal cemetery.

Surviving besides her son, Burton, is a grandson, Pfc. Donald Leatherdale, located at Hanan, Germany.

Those from away who attended the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. B. Leatherdale of Fifield and Dr. and Mrs. Ingersoll of Adams.

The Tribune adds its sympathy to that of friends and neighbors to the bereaved family.
