Gutenberger, Eileen (Marriage - 16 June 1948)

St. Mary’s Catholic church in Colby was the scene of the wedding of Miss Eileen Gutenberger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elroy Gutenberger, Colby, and Melvin H. Bender, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Bender, of Abbotsford, on Wednesday morning, June 16.

The Rev. Francis Brockman, pastor of St. Bernard’s church in Abbotsford, officiated at the double ring ceremony and celebrated the Nuptial High Mass.

Miss Evelyn Andrew was maid of honor, and Miss Virginia Bender, sister of the groom, was bridesmaid. The groom was attended by Herbert Waldhart, Stetsonville, and James Gutenberger, brother of the bride.

The bride wore a gown of white marquisette over satin with appliquéd designs on the bertha and skirt. The long sleeves ended in points at the wrists and full skirt extended into a train. Her finger tip veil was caught to a head dress of pearlized orange blossoms and she carried a bouquet of pink and white roses and lilies.

Both attendants wore identically styled gowns of taffeta, made with short puffed sleeves, fitted bodices and full skirts, Miss Andrew, in aqua, and Miss Bender in peach. Each attendant wore a rhinestone necklace, the gift of the bride. They wore matching head dresses and wrist corsages of pink and white carnations.

The bride’s mother wore a navy blue dress with white accessories, and the groom’s mother wore aqua with white accessories. Carnation corsages were worn by both mothers and the bride’s grand mother, Mrs. Engel.

Dinner was served to immediate relatives and the supper served to about 85 guests at the home of the bride’s parents. Later in the evening a dance was held at Walter’s Pavilion at Colby, Wis.

The bride, a graduate of the Colby high school, has been employed for the past two years in Milwaukee, and in the office of Clark Mills, in Colby, Wis. The groom, a graduate of Dorchester high school, is employed at the Cloverdale Cheese Factory at Dorchester, Wis. Following a wedding trip to northern Wisconsin, they will resided on Route 1, Abbotsford, Wis.
