Funeral services for Thomas H. Bielecki, U.S.N. were held Friday morning from the Thorp Funeral Home and St. Hedwig’s Catholic Church at 10 a.m., the Rev. Father Zoromski officiating.

Members of the Cecil Tormey Post No. 118 of the American Legion formed the military escort and paid honor to the young sailor at his last resting place in St. Hedwig’s Cemetery.

Also the Polish National Alliance, of which Thomas Bielecki was a member, turned out in a body to pay their last respects.

Those who served as pallbearers in uniform were: Claybourne Ebben, Robert Elkins, Louis Badzinski, Bernard Schmidt, Walter Koltis and Leonard Gorsegner.

Thomas, who was born Jan. 3, 1932 in Thorp (Clark Co., Wis.), the son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Bielecki, was killed when the aircraft carrier U.S.S. Leyte exploded and burned a week ago Friday.

He had been stationed on the carrier since enlisting in the service. He enlisted just after his 18th birthday, Jan. 3, 1950 and had been on several tours with the U.S.S. Leyte in the Pacific.

Thomas attended Thorp High School for three years and worked in Milwaukee until he joined the Navy in Feb. 1951. His last leave was in May of 1952.

He is survived by his parents, two brothers, John of North Caroline and Louis of Thorp, and one sister, Lillian of Chicago.

The heartfelt sympathy of the entire community is tendered the bereaved family in their sorrows.
