Wittman, Joseph (7 Feb. 1887 - 11 Feb. 1949)

Joseph Wittman, 62 years old, Soo Line freight conductor, died Friday morning, Feb. 11, at his home at Stevens Point, after an illness of three months.

Mr. Wittman was born Feb. 7, 1887, at Phillips, where he spent his boyhood. He began work as a brakeman for the Soo Line, Feb. 18, 1910, and advanced to conductor, April 7, 1917, at Chippewa Falls. He was married to Miss Tillie La Vigne at Chippewa Falls on June 4, 1911. The Wittman family resided in Abbotsford for several years in the 1920s and moved from here to Stevens Point June 6, 1931.

Mr. Wittman was a member of the Order of Railway Conductors and the Holy Name Society of St. Joseph’s church. Funeral services were held from that church, Monday morning at 9:00 o’clock and burial will take place in the spring in the parish cemetery.

He is survived by his widow and two daughters, Mrs. Charles (Elaine) Isherwood, Stevens Point; and Mrs. William (Lenore) Leyer, Chippewa Falls; two grand daughters, Patricia Ann Isherwood, and Donna Leyer. A brother and sister also survive.
