Lewis, Sam J. (10 May 1873 - 25 Mar. 1949)

Funeral services for Sam J. Lewis, who died at his home Friday, were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock at the Lulloff Funeral Home at Colby, with the Rev. F. H. Sprengler, of Christ Lutheran church officiating. Internment was made in the Abbotsford cemetery.

During the services, the Misses Dorothy and Doris Kieser, Inez and Bernadine Gust, who were the flower girls, sang, "Come Ye Disconsolate," and "Abide With Me."

The pallbearers were Leo Bauer, William Beil, Chris Bremer, Peter Hanson, Albert Leichtnam, and Frank Lukas.

Sam J. Lewis was born May 10, 1873, in Pennsylvania. In 1902 he went to Westboro where he was employed at the lumber company for 13 years. He bought a farm on the northwest edge of Abbotsford in 1915 and lived here until the time of his death.

In October, 1907, he was married at Eyois, Minn., to Miss Addie L. Busch. To this union three sons were born, George, Earl, and Lester, all of whom survive their parents. The mother died in November, 1919.

On Sept. 16, 1933, Mr. Lewis and Miss Verna Benz were married at Bethlehem, Mich. They have three sons, Sam, Jr., also called Jimmy, 7; Robert, 5, and David, 2.

Besides his widow and six sons, he is survived by five grand children.

Among the relatives from away who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. George Lewis and family, of Omaha, Nebraska; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lewis and children, of Montesano, Washington. Mr. and Mrs. Lester Lewis, of Burbank, California, were unable to be here.

Other relatives attending were Mrs. Ella Benz, of Milwaukee, and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Anderson, of Stevens Point.
