Bush, Betty Elva (Marriage - 17 June 1950)

Marriage vows were repeated by Miss Betty Elva Bush and Richard Burton Curry, both from Chicago, on Saturday afternoon, June 17, at 3:30 o’clock. For the ceremony, an outdoor setting, at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Bush, Dorchester, had been made of an arbor of trees, which enclosed a white altar, banked with snap dragons and ferns. The Rev. G. T. Vieth, pastor of the Salem Evangelical United Brethren Church, of Dorchester, performed the ceremony.

The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of ivory satin with a full skirt ending in a long train. A seeded pearl head dress held her finger tip veil. She carried a bouquet of white roses and stephanotis centered with a white orchid.

The gowns worn by the bride’s attendants were designed by the bride and made alike. The bride also designed her own gown.

Mrs. Harry Wilhelm, Manitowoc, sister of the bride, was matron of honor. The other bridal attendants included Miss Irene Bush, Minneapolis, sister of the bride, and Mrs. C. H. Zacher, Chicago, sister of the groom, as bridesmaids; the Misses Mary Ann and Kathleen Bush, sisters of the bride as junior bridesmaids. An orchid colored frock was worn by the matron of honor, with which she carried a spray of yellow roses. The other attendants wore yellow frocks and carried sprays of deep red roses. They all wore rhinestone necklaces, gifts of the bride.

The groom and his attendants all wearing white dinner jackets and dark trousers, included Robert Anderson, Harvey, Ill., as best man; William Bush,, Dorchester, brother of the bride, and Raymond Pohly, as ushers.

Miss Sheila May Wilhelm, Manitowoc, niece of the bride, wearing an orchid formal frock and carrying a basket of yellow roses, acted as flower girl and Vern C. Vanderbilt III, La Fayette, Indiana, as ring bearer, carried the rings on a white satin pillow.

For her daughter’s wedding, Mrs. Bush chose a dress of ash pink and the groom’s mother wore a blue dress. Mrs. Marie Hinke, Los Angeles, grand mother of the bride, wore a toast colored lace gown. They all had corsages of yellow roses.

During the ceremony, Miss Elsie Bush, sister of the bride, sang "O Promise Me," "I Love You Truly," "At Dawning," and "The Lord’s Prayer." Herbert Juneau accompanied her at the piano.

A reception and 5:00 o’clock dinner for about 100 guests were held at the home of the bride’s parents.

When they return from their honeymoon to northern Wisconsin, they will make their home at La Fayette, Ind., where the groom is completing a course in mechanical engineering at Purdue University.

The bride, a graduate of the Abbotsford High School, class of 1943, and of the Norwegian-American School of Nursing, Chicago, is employed as supervising nurse at that institution.

Among the guests at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Curry, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Zacher, Mr. and Mrs. F. Pierce, O. A. Fett, Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Pohly, and Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Pohly, and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lee, Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. V. C.
