Steger, Roy (1900? - 19 JUN 1909)
Roy Steger, the nine-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Mike Steger of 801 West B. Street, was drowned in the Upham pond Saturday afternoon of last week. The lad had brought dinner to his father, Foreman Mike Steger of the planing mill, and was playing and fishing with other boys, about the pond. He slipped from a log into the murky water and after trying vainly to reach him ran home for aid.
When the alarm was spread the lad could not be immediately located and when recovered he had been under water nearly an hour. He was taken at once to Dr. Doege’s office where every means was used to resuscitate him without avail. Life was extinct. The pond is not deep and children play around it in fancied security.
