DeMert, Gertrude E. (15 September 1917 - 7 June 2009) 

 

Gertrude DeMert, 91, of Neillsville died Sunday, June 7, 2009, at the Memorial Health and Rehabilitation Center in Neillsville. 

 

Gertrude E. Northup was born Sept. 15, 1917, in the Town of York, the daughter of Edward and Helena (Radtke) Northup.  She graduated from Neillsville High School in 1936 and then worked in the Library for two years.  She was united in marriage to Gust DeMert Feb. 15, 1939, in Waupun, IA.  During their married life, they farmed in and around the Neillsville area. Gust died April 26, 1981, and Gertrude then moved to Stoughton to be by her son, Dennis.  Dennis died in 1989, and Gertrude moved back to Neillsville. She was a member of the United Church of Christ. 

 

Gertrude is survived by many nieces and nephews. 

 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gust; a son, Dennis; her parents; two brothers; and one sister. 

 

Funeral services for Gertrude will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 2009, at the United Church of Christ.  Pastor Mark Schwinn will officiate.  Interment will be in the Neillsville City Cemetery.  Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Thursday, at the united Church of Christ.
