OWEN, WIS. --- Leon C. Apfelbeck, 87, of Owen died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at the Clark County Health Care Center in Owen. 
 

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Church in Colby, Wis. Visitation will be Saturday at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Colby, Wis. 
 

A complete obituary will run in the Friday edition of the News-Herald. 
 

The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home of Abbotsford is assisting the family.

OWEN, WIS. --- Leon C. Apfelbeck, 87, of Owen, died Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Clark County Health Care Center in Owen. 
 

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby, Wis. The Rev. Anandran Rajendran will officiate. A visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in the town of Colby, Wis. 
 

Leon was born on Oct. 18, 1921, in the town of Hull in Marathon County, a son of Carl and Margaret (Ohlinger) Apfelbeck. Leon attended Riverside School in the town of Hull and later graduated from Colby High School. Leon moved to Chicago where he started working as an usher in the local movie theaters and worked his way up to management. He then became employed by the Mars Candy Co. of Chicago where he achieved one of the company's top sales positions. 
 

Leon spent time in Chicago, Michigan, Arizona and California for the Mars Candy Co. Leon resided in San Mateo, Calif., returning to movie theater management. After retiring, Leon returned to the Owen area and entered the Clark County Health Care Center in 2004. 
 

Leon enjoyed game shows, soap operas, dining out, easy listening music and loved his cars. Leon enjoyed photography and seldom was seen without his camera. He was a former member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Colby and St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Abbotsford, Wis. To his family, Leon is remembered as a man of deep faith. 
 

Leon is survived by his brothers, Claude Apfelbeck of Abbotsford, Hubert (LaVonne) Apfelbeck of Abbotsford, Arnold (Evie) Apfelbeck of Tomahawk, Ray (Marlene) Apfelbeck of Wausau, and Robert (Darlene) Apfelbeck of Mosinee; his sisters, Rosemary Chris of Abbotsford, Lucille Weber of Twin Lakes, Helen (Butch) Leu of Abbotsford, Patricia (Roy) Boneske of Athens, Agnes Weber of Antioch, Ill., and Dorothy (David) Kramas of Darien. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 
 

He is predeceased by his parents; two brothers in infancy, John and Gilbert; one sister, Bernice Trombly; and one brother, Andrew. 
 

If desired, Masses at St. Mary's Catholic Church are being accepted in Leon's name. 
 

The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home of Colby is assisting the family.
