Schmidt, Josephine E. (15 March 1922 - 27 July 2009)  
 

Josephine E. Schmidt, 87, of Marshfield died Monday evening, July 27, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield. 
 

Josephine was born March 15, 1922, in Medford to Peter and Elizabeth (Notz) Wenner. She was united in marriage to Joseph J. Schmidt, Nov. 8, 1941, in Neillsville.  Joseph died April 17, 2002.  They farmed in the town of York, Clark County, until their retirement in 1977.  They moved to Neillsville where Josephine helped out at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Then in 2001, they moved to the city of Marshfield, and she lived there since, volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. 
 

Josephine is survived by her children, Yvonne (Alvin) Lezotte of Merrill, Richard (Beverly) Schmidt of Neillsville, Mary (Gordy) Smith of Stevens Point, Arlene (Gilbert) Layton of Wisconsin Rapids, Carolyn (Jim) Foote of Manitowoc, Ralph (Karline) Schmidt of Neillsville and Lorie (Tim) Thoma of Neillsville; 25 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Miriam Merrill of Tampa, FL. 
 

Josephine was preceded in death by her parents; husband; grandson, David Lezotte; great-grandson Jacob Lezotte; and two brothers, William and Joseph Wenner. 
 

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 31, 2009, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Reverent Peter Manickam officiated. Suzanne Golden and Sacred Heart Funeral Choir provided music.  Burial was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery with grandchildren serving as pallbearers. 
 

Rembs Funeral Home, Marshfield, assisted the family with the arrangements.
