Stephens, William S. (27 JAN 1867 - 8 DEC 1952)

 

William Sherman Stephens passed away at the Victory Memorial Hospital on Dec. 8, 1952.  He was born on Jan. 27, 1867 at Fond du Lac, Wis.  When quite young, he came to Clark County with his parents.  They settled near Dorchester (Clark Co., Wis.).  The greater part of his life was spent around Dorchester and Curtiss, until the last several years which were spent near Marshfield and Withee.

 

He was married to Ida Johnson on Dec. 25, 1894 at the home of his parents, Silas and Milessia Stephens near Dorchester, Wis.

 

To this union was born eight children, Wesley of Marshfield; Clarence of Owen; Nina, Mrs. Howard Durbin of Withee; Esther, Mrs. Warren Banks of Waukesha; Ethel, Mrs. Andrew Krug, Owen; Gladys, Mrs. Albert Baldwin of Minneapolis, Chester of Random Lake and Arnold of St. Paul.

 

Surviving besides the children is one sister, Mrs. Ella Green of Mount Carmel, Ill., 27 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many other relatives.

 

His wife passed away on March 12, 1950.  His parents and three sisters also preceded him in death.

 

He was 85 years, 11 and 11 days.

 

Funeral services were held at the Curtiss Evangelical Lutheran Church on Thursday p.m. at 2 o’clock, Rev. O.K. Odland officiating.  Burial was made in the church cemetery.

 

Pallbearers were four sons, Wesley, Clarence, Chester and Arnold, and two sons-in-law, Albert Baldwin and Warren Banks.  Two songs were sung by Billy Geary, who was accompanied by Mrs. Ralph Peterson as organist.  Flower girls were Miss Annabelle Krug, Betty Anderson and the Mrs. Adeline Krug and Vera Wilke, Beatrice Neitzel, Dorothy Stephens.
